At present, one of the electronic lock systems used by the chain hotels was discovered by Finland’s security company F-Secure as a major security breach. They succeeded in creating “Masters” that can be used in all rooms of a building.
According to F-Secure, the target is the “Vision by VingCard” system software applied by Assa Abloy, a Swedish electronic door lock company. By simply renovating an expired card, it will become applicable to all rooms in the building. The "universal spoon" opens every room.
F-Secure stated that this security breach will not leave any traces even when it is implemented. They do not guarantee that no one in the world will use these loopholes to commit crimes. They point out that no trace of illegal invasion can be detected from the hotel's system. .
Assa Abloy has contacted F-Secure and updated the system software for its products.
