It is reported that the owner of the Samsung Television Division stated that Samsung Electronics has been researching the method of applying quantum dot technology to its Micro LED TV.
Samsung Image at 2018 QLED TV Model Conference in Seoul monitor Business Minister Han Zongxi said: 'We are planning to produce and supply Micro LED televisions from Vietnam'.
Samsung decided to launch the 146-inch Micro LED TV model, but Samsung's president said that the maximum and minimum sizes are still uncertain.
According to Han Zongxi, Samsung will announce the price in June. The company will refer to the price of its 110-inch ultra high-definition TV. The TV is priced at US$149,900 (equivalent to approximately RMB940,000) when it is first introduced.
Samsung’s president also stated that regarding the application of quantum dot technology for Micro LED televisions, to achieve the placement of quantum dots on micron-sized LEDs that are invisible to the naked eye, a high level of cutting-edge technology is required. Micro LEDs require RGB on epitaxial wafers. If you can apply quantum dot technology and increase productivity, you can save costs.
Previously rumored that Samsung planned to launch a QLED TV, and Han Zongxi denied the rumor, but he said that the company has conducted a research project in-house that intends to combine QLED with OLED technology.
In addition, Samsung will launch Micro LED TV The Wall in the second half of this year.
Micro LED TVs are composed of micron-sized LEDs that form a screen. Like OLEDs, this technology requires no backlight source but uses inorganic materials. Samsung’s competitor LG is applying OLED technology to its high-end TVs.
It is understood that in 2017, global and Korean companies have doubled their patent applications for Micro LED.
