The steady growth of energy production in the first quarter of 2018

In the first quarter, the production of raw coal and natural gas for industries above designated size grew steadily, the decline in crude oil production narrowed, the processing volume of crude oil increased significantly, and electricity production grew rapidly.

First, raw coal production remained stable and imports increased significantly

In the first quarter, raw coal output was 800 million tons, an increase of 3.9% year-on-year. In March, raw coal production increased by 1.3% year-on-year, which was a 4.4 percentage point drop from January to February.

The concentration of enterprises further increased. In the first quarter of 2018, industrial enterprises above designated size had a total of 2,433 raw coal production, which was a decrease of 372 compared with December 2017, which was a decrease of 1,229 units compared to 2015 before the implementation of the capacity reduction policy. The average output per household was higher than 2015. In the same period of the year, it increased by about 80,000 tons, and the average size of the company has expanded significantly.

Raw coal imports increased significantly. In the first quarter, raw coal imports reached 75.41 million tons, an increase of 16.6% year-on-year. In March, raw coal imports were 26.7 million tons, an increase of 20.9%, and double-digit growth was maintained for three consecutive months.

Coal prices have fallen. As of the end of March, the Qinhuangdao 5500 kcal coal closing price was 607 yuan per ton, down 10 yuan from the end of last year; 5000 kcal per ton 564 yuan, down 33 yuan; 4500 kcal per ton 491 yuan , dropped 36 yuan.

Second, the decline in crude oil output has narrowed, and the processing volume of crude oil has increased rapidly

In the first quarter, crude oil production was 46.33 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.0%, and the decrease was 4.8 percentage points lower than the same period of last year. In March, crude oil production fell by 2.2% year-on-year, with an average daily output of 515,000 tons.

The growth rate of crude oil imports fell. In the first quarter, the import of crude oil reached 110.07 million tons, an increase of 7.0% year-on-year. In March, the import of crude oil was 39.17 million tons, an increase of 0.6% year-on-year, and the growth rate fell 0.9% from January to February.

Crude oil prices fluctuated higher. In March, Brent crude spot FOB prices stabilized at more than US$60/barrel. As of March 29, the price was US$69.0/barrel, which was US$2.9/barrel higher than at the end of February.

In the second half of the year, due to the successive production of new refining capacity in China and the significant increase in the first batch of crude oil import quotas in 2018, the volume of crude oil processing increased significantly in the first quarter, which was a year-on-year increase of 7.5%, and the growth rate was 3.0 percentage points higher than the same period of last year. Crude oil processing volume increased by 8.3% year-on-year, and the average daily processing capacity was 1.662 million tons, which was the highest level in history. Among them, gasoline, kerosene and diesel production increased by 5.7%, 14.6% and 1.3% respectively.

Third, natural gas production remained high, and imports grew rapidly

In the first quarter, natural gas production was 39.67 billion cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 3.3%. Affected by the higher base, growth rate was 0.1 percentage point lower than the same period of last year. In March, natural gas production increased by 0.4% year-on-year, with an average daily production of 440 million cubic meters. Maintain the highest daily production level.

Natural gas imports grew rapidly. In the first quarter, natural gas imports reached 20,62 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 37.3%. In March, 5.96 million tons of natural gas were imported, an increase of 39.0% year-on-year. The growth rate was 2.1 percentage points slower than that in January-February.

IV. Accelerated power production and continuous optimization of power generation structure

In the first quarter, 1.6 trillion kWh was generated, and the power generation increased rapidly, which was 8.0% year-on-year, and the growth rate was 1.3% faster than the same period of last year. In March, the national average temperature was 2.9°C higher than the same period of last year, and the temperature in the same period last year was close to normal. In addition, this month was one working day less than the same period of last year. Affected by this, the growth rate of power generation dropped slightly, which was a year-on-year increase of 2.1%.

The power generation structure was optimized, and the proportion of clean energy power generation continued to increase. In the first quarter, hydropower, nuclear power, wind power, and solar power accounted for 22.9% of total power generation, which was a 0.8% increase over the same period of last year. Among them, wind power and solar power increased by 33.8% and 33.5%, strong growth; nuclear power growth 11.6%, due to the recent lack of new grid-connected generator sets, the growth rate has slowed down from the average level in recent years; hydropower is affected by the water, low-speed growth, an increase of 2.6%.

Notes

1. Explanation of indicators

Raw Coal: Refers to raw coal produced in coal mines that has passed inspection and acceptance of quality standards. That is: Raw coal with the specified particle size of vermiculite (including pyrite, etc.) and absolute dry ash below 40% is selected from the raw coal. Absolute dry ash Although more than 40%, but approved by the relevant authorities for the exploitation of low quality coal with consumer demand, should also be included in the raw coal production. Raw coal is divided into anthracite, bituminous coal, brown coal, bituminous coal is divided into coking bituminous coal and general bituminous coal Raw coal does not include stone coal, peat (peat), and coal gangue produced with the raw coal production process.

Average daily product output: Calculated by dividing the total output of industrial enterprises above designated size that was announced in the month by the calendar days of the month.

As the scope of industrial enterprises above designated size changes every year, in order to ensure that this year's data is comparable to the previous year, the same period of time used for calculating the year-on-year growth rate of various indicators such as product output is consistent with the scope of business statistics for the current period, and was announced in the previous year. There is a difference in the data size.

2. Scope of statistics

The statistical data of the production statistics in the report are all industries above designated size, and their statistical scope is industrial enterprises with an annual main business income of over 20 million yuan.

3. Survey method

The import data comes from the General Administration of Customs; the coal price data comes from the Chinese coal market network; the crude oil price data comes from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA); the temperature data comes from the China Meteorological Administration.

4. Natural gas unit conversion relationship: 1 ton is approximately equal to 1380 cubic meters.
