On April 11, 2018, ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ON), an energy-efficient innovation company, introduced the industry's first 1/1.7-inch 2.1-megapixel CMOS image sensor AR0221. The sensor uses Anson. The newly developed 4.2 μm back-illuminated (BSI) pixels from U.S. Semiconductor provide leading low-light sensitivity for industrial applications.
The AR0221 provides excellent triple exposure line staggered high dynamic range (HDR), sensor resolution of 1936H x 1096V, support for frame rates of 1080p/30 fps, and visible, excellent signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in near-infrared wavelengths Its 16: 9 ratio, with vibrant colors and high contrast makes it ideal for demanding industrial applications.

The sensor provides dual data interfaces in the form of 4-channel MIPI CSI-2 and HiSPi SLVS. The AR0221 is designed to meet industrial grade specifications and is capable of operating in harsh outdoor environments with an operating temperature range of -30°C to +85°C. The AR0221 is available in a rugged, reliable and rugged iBGA package. The surface glass has an anti-reflective coating and can be programmed through a simple two-wire serial interface. The AR0221 is available now in RGB Bayer, 12mm x 9mm iBGA packages.
