Foreign media: US operator T-Mobile and Sprint are in a new round of negotiations

According to foreign media reports, informed sources said on Tuesday that the US operator T-Mobile US is in the process of acquiring a new round of negotiations for Sprint. This is the latest effort by the third and fourth largest wireless operators in the United States to seek merger.

The previous round of negotiations between T-Mobile and Sprint ended due to price differences and control issues in November last year. Before that, Softbank, which owns 80% of Sprint shares, and Deutsche Telekom, the parent company of T-Mobile, are the two companies. The merger of U.S. telecommunications operators took place for months of negotiations.

According to foreign media, as the industry competes to expand its 5G product lineup, the combined company will have more than 127 million subscribers, and may pose more threatening competition to top-tier operator Verizon and second-largest carrier AT&T.

As early as 2014, Softbank planned to merge Sprint with T-Mobile US, but it was opposed by the US regulatory authorities. Softbank acquired Sprint in 2012.
