NVIDIA announced today that the mainstream driver support for Fermi architecture graphics cards has officially come to an end. It will no longer provide new features, performance optimizations, bug fixes, and will only urgently resolve security issues when necessary. It will only be until January 2019.
The Fermi Architecture was born in April 2010 and is named after the famous Italian physicist Enrique Fermi. It is the successor to the Tesla architecture and is the oldest NVIDIA GPU supporting DX12. It started with a 40nm process. Manufacturing, later part of the mobile version upgrade to 28nm process, integrating up to 3 billion transistors.
Fermi architecture is used for GeForce 400/500 series graphics cards on desktops and notebooks. Some of the cores have continued to the GeForce 800 series in the form of a vest. Altogether, up to 72 products have been derived. (see below for details), also used in Quadro x000 series, Quadro NVS series, Tesla computing card.
In the future, the NVIDIA official mainstream graphics architecture family includes: Kepler, Maxwell, Pascal.
It is worth mentioning that, The Fermi and Tesla architectures have supported 8 years, but Tesla's extended security support lasted for 2 years, and Fermi only 10 months.
Simultaneously Starting this month, NVIDIA is no longer supporting mainstream 32-bit systems. It is also limited to emergency security repairs. It is also January 2019.
GeForce Experience software will not be updated on 32-bit systems.
