PlayNitride has obtained permission from the executive branch to set up factories in the Hsinchu Science Park in northern Taiwan to produce MicroLED screens. In 2015, for the first time, there was a report mentioning that Apple was interested in MicroLED screen technology. At that time, Apple Taiwan also opened a secret. The laboratory developed this display technology. Since then, Apple has continued to shrink the size of Taiwan's laboratories and transferred its research and development capabilities to its headquarters.
MicroLED has always been considered as a technology to replace OLEDs. At present, iPhone X and Apple Watch use OLED screens. MicroLEDs have higher brightness and better luminous efficiency than existing OLED technologies, but have lower power consumption.
