Japanese internet broker Monex considers acquisition of cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck

According to foreign media reports, the Japanese Internet brokerage brokerage Monex Group said on Tuesday that it is considering the acquisition of cryptocurrency exchange operator Coincheck. Earlier this year, Coincheck had more than US$500 million in customer assets stolen.

Monex said it has not yet made a final purchase decision. However, Japanese media reported that Monex has proposed to spend billions of yen (approximately tens of millions of US dollars) to acquire Coincheck, which is expected to be announced as early as this week.

Monex said that it has begun to study how to carry out cryptocurrency exchange operations.

At present, all 16 cryptocurrency transactions registered with the Japan Financial Services Agency are pending, while 16 other companies are still awaiting approval while operating. The Japanese version of WeChat, instant messaging software Line is also applying for the introduction of cryptocurrency exchanges.
