According to the Haidian court news, because Jiangsu Education Group Co., Ltd. was deemed to have used the words “Tsinghua” in the names of the websites and educational institutions it operated without permission, Tsinghua University appealed it to the court for infringement of trademark rights and unfair competition. It demanded that the infringement should be stopped immediately, an apology should be made, and that 3 million of the economic losses should be compensated and a reasonable amount of 59,290 yuan should be paid to stop the infringement.

The plaintiff Tsinghua University claimed that its predecessor was Tsinghua Academy, which was established in 1911. It has now become a comprehensive university with science, engineering, culture, law, medicine, economics, management, and arts. The influence has been continuously expanded and strengthened. In real life, 'Tsinghua' has become the abbreviation of Tsinghua University.

On November 21, 1988, Tsinghua University was approved by the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce to register the trademark of “Tsinghua”. After being registered for renewal, the above-mentioned trademarks are still under legal effective protection. Recently, Tsinghua University discovered that Jiangsu Education Company was Its operating website highlights the use of commercial signs such as 'Tsinghua' and 'Tsinghua Park', and the name of the educational institution it operates contains the words 'Tsinghua'.

Tsinghua University believes that the behavior of the Jiangsu education company misleads the relevant public as having some kind of connection with Tsinghua University, causing market confusion and infringement of Tsinghua University’s trademark rights. In addition, 'Tsinghua' and 'Tsinghua Park' are regulated by Tsinghua University. Referred to as the abbreviation, Jiangsu Education Company highlighted the use of 'Tsinghua' and 'Tsinghua Park', which caused consumers to confuse and misidentify the sources of goods and services, and adversely affected the reputation of Tsinghua University. Therefore, it appealed to the court.

A few days ago, the Haidian court accepted the case and is now undergoing further trials.
