Last year, South Korea's semiconductor exports hit a record high

Gathering micro-network news, Yonhap quoted the South Korean Customs data, said South Korea's semiconductor exports in 2017 totaled 99.71 billion US dollars, an increase of 60.2% year-on-year, hitting a record high. This is the first time a single project exports reached 90 billion US dollars for the first time.

Last year, IC semiconductor exports increased by 66% year-on-year, driving exports of semiconductors as a whole. Among them, storage chip exports increased by 90.7% to 67.2 billion US dollars; system chips increased by 25.1% to 21.4 billion US dollars.

South Korea's major semiconductor export regions are mainland China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and the United States. Among them, exports to China grew by 62.4% to US$39.35 billion; China has remained the largest semiconductor export target since 2005. Exports to Vietnam have increased by 102.5. % to 9.26 billion U.S. dollars.

Customs predicts that South Korea will increase investment in the fourth industrial revolution-related industries such as artificial intelligence and Internet of Things to ensure that semiconductor exports will continue to maintain its upward trend.

However, the high dependence of Korean exports on semiconductors caused concern. Last year, semiconductor exports accounted for 17.4% of total exports, up 4.8 percentage points year-on-year.
