March 6-8, 2018, IEC/TC65/SC65C (Industrial Network Sub-Committee) Time-Sensitive Network (TSN) project team meeting was held in the United States. Experts attending the meeting for the TSN protocol conformance testing, physical layer and media access control speed , Data link layer, clock synchronization, management system, information security, performance indicators, use of public data dictionary (CDD) to support communication network design and maintenance were discussed. The project team plans to complete all development work in May 2020 The TSN protocol will eventually be published as the sixth part of IEC 61784 'Industrial Communication Network Profile' series of standards IEC 61784-6.
IEC/SC65C established the Time Sensitive Network (TSN) project team under the MT9 (Fieldbus Maintenance) Working Group in June 2017, and jointly developed TSN international standards with the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), and in 2017 respectively. In October, three project team meetings were held in January 2018 and March 2018. Currently, the project team consists of 17 experts from Germany, China, France, the United Kingdom, Austria, Japan, and Korea. Prof. Mei Wei, Deputy Director of the Institute, Prof. Liu Dan, Director of the Center for Sensing and Network Control, Prof. Xu Yudong of Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, participated in the drafting of the standard as a Chinese expert.
The TSN communication protocol has a high data transmission volume and priority setting function of Gbit/s level, which ensures the reliable transmission of real-time data through public network facilities, and the protocol is transparent, the hardware cost is low, and the system architecture is simple. Therefore, it is considered as Realize the future industrial Internet core technology support with cloud server to control the global industrial system. At present, IEC/TC65 has carried out a series of technical standards discussion activities to accelerate the introduction of TSN into the industrial communication infrastructure, which is expected to consist of TSN and OPC UA.
