SONGWON has developed functional monomers as early as two years ago and is now mass producing at its production site in Ulsan, Korea. These monomers provide resins and polymers with special functions. One of the most important functions is to improve the final product. Physical and chemical properties. Applications include coatings, automotive industry and electronics packaging special resins, sealants, adhesives and engineering plastics.
Successfully started the new DCPD phenol monomer production line after SONGWON Matsubara team
Heinrich Schulte, Head of Functional Monomer Market Center, said: “With this new productivity, our Ulsan production base can now supply medium-sized specialty monomers at competitive prices. The Central Technological Innovation Center will continue to develop further. Multi-products, combined with the expansion of the market, allow us to follow the route of technology to market.
The first functional monomers produced by Ulsan are cyclopentadiene (DCPD) phenol oligomers (for example, ERM-6085 and ERM-6140 are better known in the industry, depending on the softening point) and bisphenol trimethyl cyclohexanol. Alkane (BP-TMC).
DCPD is commonly used as an epoxy resin modifier in chain extension reactions and is mainly used in the manufacture of epoxy resin composites. The DCPD phenol resin softening point and function can vary greatly, so these products are ideally suited for the growing market. Special epoxy resins are available. These epoxy resins have high dielectric constants and low dissipation factors at high frequencies. For example, they are used for circuit boards and packaging materials that meet the requirements of the new 5G transmission standard.
SONGWON's standard grade BP-TMC monomer can be used for epoxy or epoxy phenolic resins, while the high purity grade is designed specifically for impact-resistant and transparent polycarbonate.
With over 20 years of professional experience in the production and modification of phenolic chemical products, SONGWON will continue to develop new functional monomers and achieve production in Ulsan.
