GSMA Holds Sishui Meeting | Posts 5G and Internet of Things Report

On March 20th, GSMA held the “Xixianghui” forum in Beijing and shared some observations and trends at the Mobile World Congress. In the meantime, it also released the Case Study Report on Mobile Internet of Things in Greater China and the “China 5G Report”. : Development Outlook and Regional Comparisons: Two Reports. In addition to the follow-up roundtable forums, President of the China Listed Companies Association, former Chairman of China Mobile Group Wang Jianzhou, Chairman of AsiaInfo Group, former CEO of China Netcom, Dr Tian Yining, etc. The heavy guests also joined and discussed some of their own views after going through MWC2018.

Ms. Si Han, head of GSMA Greater China, made a speech for the forum. She mentioned that 'Mobile Internet of Things is providing new opportunities for operators to support key areas and provide interoperability throughout the region. Operators in Greater China have Benefiting from the deployment of mobile Internet of Things, we encourage other companies to take immediate action to take full advantage of this potential market opportunity and further accelerate the development of the Internet of Things.

The Case Study Report on Mobile Internet of Things in Greater China provides input and development for major domestic operators and suppliers in mobile Internet of Things. According to the analysis of GSMA think tank research director, by 2025, the total number of IoT devices in the world will reach The main force for subsequent growth will be smart building, public utilities, and manufacturing, and other industrial segments. And Graham Trickey, director of the GSMA Internet of Things Program, explained how to make the Internet of Things a reality. He said that there have been many incidents on the MWC2018 site. This involves the demonstration of the Internet of Things. Security is also a very important aspect of the Internet of Things. There are also security demonstrations for the Internet of Things at the MWC, including identification via SIM cards.

The “China 5G Report: Development Prospects and Regional Comparisons” analyzes the status quo and prospects of China’s 5G development. The report predicts that subsidies for operators’ markets will shift from 4G to 5G, and by 2025 China’s 5G connections will reach 428 million. It is slower than 4G. The main factor is that the deployment speed of 4G is relatively rapid, and it is relatively mature at present. In addition, the price of 5G terminals also takes a long time to fall to the level of 4G terminals. From the perspective of consumption, high-definition video broadcast and AR/VR etc. will be representative applications for 5G applications.

GSMA's future network project leader is also analyzing the value of the 5G era on the spot. He said that the current expectations of the world for 5G are very high and they are already ready for 5G. We can see that there are currently more than 77 worldwide. Operators are trying 5G. Even at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, KT's 5G test showed the role of 5G to the world, including 360 VR, omni-directional perspective, synchronous viewing angle, 5G vehicles, etc.

In the follow-up roundtable session, Wang Jianzhou published several observations on MWC. As a veteran of the industry, Wang Jianzhou participated in many MWC exhibitions. This year, he paid more attention to 5G. Wang Jianzhou expressed several views: 5G technology has basically matured at present, and major manufacturers have also begun to provide products using the new wireless standard. The most important use of 5G is to expand the existing capacity. In the 2G era, 5 yuan and 20 MB per person per month are used. Enough is enough. In the 3G era, 200M is required for each person per month. At present, the amount of data for each 4G application is about 2GB. According to the unlimited experiment of the previous experiment, the monthly data amount per person can reach 20GB, and the bandwidth and capacity of 4G can be reached. It is impossible to meet this amount of data, so the role of 5G in this area is very important. When 5G usher in an outbreak, Wang Jianzhou believes that the 5G breakout point will be part of the integration of 5G and AI. Highly reliable and low latency application of a comprehensive development period.
