'The Surface Hub has created a brand new device type and we are satisfied with the strong global demand for the Surface Hub,' said a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to foreign media The Verge.
'We are developing the V2 version of the Surface Hub. There will be more details in the first half of the year.'
Microsoft plans to launch the Surface Hub 2 in the first half of 2018, but it is not yet clear when it will be available for purchase.
Microsoft is also currently upgrading its existing Surface Hub device with a new operating system. The company hopes to incorporate many of the Surface Hub 2 software features into its current model.
In the coming months, Microsoft Teams integration will also be available on the Surface Hub.
So, why did Microsoft release Surface Hub 2? 'I think for purchase companies, they may need to budget in advance,' said Carolina Milanesi, a technology analyst at Creative Strategies.
'At the same time the existence of other competing products also distracted the attention of the Surface Hub, and the release of Surface Hub 2 gave buyers a choice.'
Google launched its own digital whiteboard last year, priced at 4,000 US dollars (25,330 yuan), lower than the Microsoft 55-inch Surface Hub, and Microsoft's 84-inch models currently sell for 21,999 US dollars (139,310 yuan).
Although these are very expensive, Microsoft has sold the Surface hub to over 5,000 companies in 25 countries. More than half of the Fortune 100 companies own the device.
This makes the Surface Hub more popular than any other Surface device of Microsoft enterprise customers.
Microsoft expects that demand for Surface Hub will exceed supply this year, and it seems that Microsoft is working hard to build these giant displays quickly.
Last year, Microsoft shut down its manufacturing facility in the United States. This may be to cut costs, but also to speed up production elsewhere.
Microsoft initially announced its Surface Hub at a Windows 10 event in January 2015 but did not start selling until March 2016.
It is expected that there will be more news about Surface Hub 2 in the coming months. Microsoft is unlikely to hold special events for this device, but if Microsoft is ready to launch other Surface hardware, it is possible to hold Surface's spring launch event.
