In November 2016, Dolby Laboratories sued two Chinese smartphone makers Vivo and OPPO in Delhi's High Court of Justice, accusing the two companies of selling unpaid smartphones in the Indian market.

According to the Delhi High Court ruling in India, Vivo and OPPO provided Dolby Laboratories with details of their use of infringing technology equipment, including manufacturing, sales, and import data, each month. The lawyer for Dolby Laboratories told the court that Dolby had signed a 'strategic cooperation agreement' with the two defendants on December 30, 2017.
