The industry is talking about the development of the semiconductor industry | Call for enhanced global cooperation

Where is the main driving force for rapid growth of the semiconductor industry coming from? Can artificial intelligence significantly boost the new applications of integrated circuits? At the SEMICON China 2018 concurrent forum that opened on the 14th, IC industry insiders from home and abroad held heated discussions and strengthened globally. Semiconductor industry cooperation has become the focus of the forum.

According to the data, in 2017, China's IC industry sales were 535.52 billion yuan, an increase of 23.5% year-on-year; global semiconductor industry sales reached US$419.7 billion, a year-on-year increase of 22.2%.

At SEMICON China 2018's industry and technology investment forum, industry experts such as Wei Shaojun, director of the Institute of Microelectronics of Tsinghua University, will discuss whether artificial intelligence will become the main driving force for the development of the semiconductor industry. Wei Shaojun believes that artificial intelligence must become a semiconductor. The main driver of growth faces two problems: First, new algorithms emerge in an endless stream; Second, there is no unified algorithm. Many industry insiders, such as Zhou Zixue, chairman of SMIC, said that the joint development of global semiconductor companies can achieve a win-win situation.

In Zhou Zixue’s view, the Chinese semiconductor industry is neither as fast as foreigners think it is going to catch up with the world at once, nor is it like some people in the country think it can develop quickly. As a manufacturing industry, any good semiconductor company needs to go through long Accumulation. As an international industry, both Chinese companies and international semiconductor companies should be more open and interoperable, so as to better promote the development of the global semiconductor industry.

“It is better to stand at the commanding heights to suppress China. It's better to go to China with happiness and work together to find opportunities for growth. 'To address the competing issues of the international semiconductor industry, Ye Tianchun, Director of the Microelectronics Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that China’s semiconductor industry occupies Half of the global market. International semiconductor companies should have a more open mind to cooperate with Chinese companies.

Ye Tianchun stressed that in China's emerging industry system, the semiconductor equipment and materials industry should seize the opportunity to accelerate development. KLA-Tencor CEO and President Rick Wallace pointed out that the semiconductor industry began in the United States after reviewing the evolution of the global semiconductor industry in the past half century. Silicon Valley, for the first time, moved to Japan and moved to Korea and Taiwan for the second time. Now the global semiconductor industry has shifted its focus to China.
