According to Korean media reports, Samsung Electronics' Xi'an-based NAND flash memory production line expansion project will be officially started at the end of this month.
At the end of August 2017, Samsung Electronics announced that it had reached a cooperation agreement with the Shaanxi Provincial Government to expand the flash memory capacity of the Xi’an High-tech Zone factory and build a new phase II project. It will invest 7 billion U.S. dollars in the next three years.
At the same time, Samsung has also continuously increased investment in South Korea, and successively built two new factories, both with memory, flash memory production capacity.
In Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, Samsung has a large factory. It can produce 64 stacked flash memories in the middle of this year, and it can also produce memory. The initial investment will be 15.6 trillion won, and it will double by 2021.
At the same time, Samsung also established another factory in the area, with an investment of 30 trillion won. It is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2019.
Samsung's cooperation with Xi'an is quite deep. At the end of 2013, Samsung invested 500 million U.S. dollars to build a post-project-package testing project for a flash memory chip production project. It was completed and put into operation in April 2015.
In March 2016, Samsung established Samsung Semiconductor China Sales Headquarters in Xi'an High-tech Zone, Samsung Semiconductor (Xi'an) Co., Ltd.
In September 2016, Samsung added 370 million U.S. dollars to start the second phase of the package testing project and completed the first half of 2017.
Currently, The Xi'an plant is responsible for the packaging and testing of Samsung's flash memory chips, and its production capacity can be increased to 10 million solid-state drives per year.
