Mitsubishi Chemical acquires 3D printing materials company Dutch Filaments

Dutch Filaments BV, a Dutch producer of 3D printed wires, was recently acquired by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. through its wholly-owned subsidiary Mitsubishi Chemical High Performance Polymers Europe Ltd. (MCPP). At the just-concluded 2018TCT show, DuPont and Clariant International materials giants have already launched their own 3D printing materials, while the Japanese chemical giant Mitsubishi Chemical acquired through the way also entered the 3D printing material market.

It is understood that in 2017 Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings ranked 349th in the Fortune 500 list with operating income of 31.1 billion U.S. dollars (1974 billion yuan). Although the acquisition did not disclose the details, the Dutch wire company said that Mitsubishi Chemical was 'The perfect company to realize its rapid global growth'.

Headquartered in Helmond, The Netherlands, the company was established in 2014 and has become a recognized developer, manufacturer and supplier of 3D printed wire and polymer materials.

The acquisition will allow Dutch Filaments' 70-unit plant in the Netherlands to be controlled by Mitsubishi Chemical's high-performance polymer, which MCPP said will help strengthen its position as a supplier of 3D printing materials. Chemistry has taken a significant step forward in the polymer 3D printed wire market.

The Japanese company said that with this acquisition, Mitsubishi Chemical added polymer-based wire for 3D printing to its high-performance polymer business portfolio and will advance Mitsubishi Chemical Group's high-performance Polymer and other materials strategies and further expand 3D printing related business. '

DutchFilaments website has more than 25 wire types and polymer 3D printed particles of the product.
