The impact strength of plastic is one of the most important indicators of its mechanical properties, and plastic tensile strength almost as important as the elongation at break.
There are three indicators to measure the impact strength of plastic, which are the impact strength of Izod, impact strength of impact beam and falling ball. They are not interchangeable with each other, nor are they comparable with each other, and sometimes even reverse Of the results, such as PA66 and PPO, PC and LDPE, etc., as shown in Table 1. Therefore, to compare the different sizes of plastic impact strength, the same test methods must be used before they are comparable.

The impact strength of different plastics vary greatly, as shown in Table 1 and Table 2, the plastic with the largest drop impact strength is LDPE, the least impact strength is PS, the cantilever with notched impact strength is the largest, the PS is the smallest, PPO second.
The method of improving the impact strength of plastic is to add toughening agent, there are many kinds of toughening agent which can be used in plastic, different toughening toughening agents can be suitable for different plastics.
