Expand the first advantage! Samsung announced the second chip factory in South Korea: cost 6 billion US dollars

According to market research firm Gartner data report, Samsung Electronics in 2017 to 14.6% market share since breaking Intel's position in the global semiconductor industry since 1992, becoming the world's No. 1 chip maker.

However, after winning the world's first chip throne, Samsung Electronics decided to continue to expand its competitive advantage in South Korea to build a second chip factory.


Samsung Korea Hwaseong semiconductor factory

On February 23, Samsung officially announced that it will invest 6 billion U.S. dollars (about 38 billion U.S. dollars) to build a new semiconductor factory in Hwaseong, Korea, to expand its production capacity of 7-nm EUVs. It will be completed in the second half of 2019 and will be completed by 2020.

It is understood that at present, Samsung has a total of four factories under production, of which two are in South Korea, respectively, located in South Korea's Xingxing and Pyeongtaek, two overseas semiconductor plants, respectively, located in Austin, Texas and Xi'an, China.
