Japan plans to lay off 3,000 NEC | and integrate its domestic factories

According to foreign media reports, Japan's Nippon Electric said on Tuesday it is seeking to reduce its domestic workforce by 3,000, and the company's ongoing telecoms infrastructure business is in a dilemma.

NEC has previously sold the semiconductor, personal computer and smart phone business.

The layoffs form part of NEC's three-year business plan to double operating profit to 150 billion yen ($ 1.38 billion) by focusing on software and services-related businesses for the fiscal year ending March 2021, .

A NEC spokesman said NEC will ask employees if they intend to retire early on their own initiative and NEC also plans to consolidate its domestic plant.

The spokesman said NEC currently employs about 100,000 people worldwide.
