Korean cable gains the United States 500kV UHV underground cable orders

Korea Cable, Korea's leading industrial cable supplier, has won an order for the construction of 500 kV Ultra High Voltage (UHV) underground cables in the southwestern United States.

According to the company's announcement, the Korean cable will install 53 kilometers of underground UHV cables for the Sunzia transmission project in Arizona-New Mexico.

The Sunzia Power Transmission Project aims to build a 500-kilovolt UHV transmission network of 830 km, while the Korean cable did not disclose the exact amount of the transaction, but insiders estimate the deal is worth tens of millions of dollars.

Korea Cable said it has received a turnkey project from a local joint venture called Sunzia Transmission, which will supply 500,000 volt UHV underground cables and related connectors to the Sunzia transmission project and will provide grid planning and routing, Connection and test run service, scheduled to be installed by 2020.

The 500 kV UHV cable is an upgraded version of UHV cables. For the first time, it has been successfully developed and supplied in Korea and won contracts of technology in Russia, the United States and Indonesia for technical and competitive recognition.

A company official said the latest deal once again proved its world-class EHV cable technology.

Prior to the Sunzia Power Transmission Project, the Korean Cable Company successfully completed in North America in December 2016 the first North American 500-kV grid project to be built in California for local power supplier Southern California Edison.
