Up to 7TB! Micron Introduces New Enterprise SSDs: Performance Spike HDDs

On January 25, 2018, Micron introduced the 5200 Series SATA Solid State Drives, a new family of solid-state drives with its latest 64-layer 3D NAND Flash Particles and a single 2.5-inch SSD with a capacity of up to 7.68TB.

Officials said the 5200 series SSDs are built on the 5100 series and the biggest difference is that the 32-layer 3D NAND flash memory in the 5100 series has been replaced by 64-layer 3D NAND flash memory, the benefit of which is to minimize design Cost, to provide customers with larger capacity, lower prices, more reliable storage performance solutions.

With up to 95k IOPS of random reads and 33k IOPS of random writes, the 5200 Series SSDs deliver an average of up to 3 million hours of fail-free operation, which is significantly higher than the average, trouble-free uptime of 2 million hours for a typical enterprise SSD.

In addition, the official said 5200 series SSD is designed to replace the current 10000RPM mechanical hard drive, IOPS performance of a single SSD is three times the 24 10000RPM mechanical hard drive.

The new 5200 series of single SSD has a variety of capacity from 480GB to 7680GB optional SSD price and the specific listing date yet to be announced.
