South Korea's Samsung washing machine factory in the United States is about to start

According to foreign media reports January 15, South Korea's Samsung Electronics January 14 announced that it will start the first washing machine factory in Newberry County, South Carolina, the move is expected to reduce the FTA imposed by the United States on its tariffs burden.

On January 12, Samsung held a ceremony in Newberry County to celebrate the official launch of its first U.S. factory, including Kim Hyun-suk, president of Samsung's consumer electronics unit, Henry McMaster, governor of South Carolina, And other U.S. politicians attended the ceremony.

Samsung said it will invest a total of 380 million U.S. dollars (about 2.4 billion U.S. dollars) in the next three years with the goal of producing 1 million washing machines a year and creating more than 1,000 jobs.

Samsung set up a new plant in the United States this time because November 2017 the U.S. International Trade Commission proposed to the President Trump administration that within three years large-scale domestic washing machines imported from South Korea's Samsung and LG companies exceeding the quota of 1.2 million sets, In addition to the current tax rate, a further 50% duty is levied on the proposal after Whirlpool filed a petition for protection in May 2017. Whirlpool Corporation accounts for approximately 40% of the market in the US washing machine market, but Samsung and LG Corporation has a total share of 30% and is on the rise.

The Trump administration plans to announce a resolution on protection measures in February, while the South Korean government hopes WTO will make at least 710 million U.S. dollars (about 4.6 billion U.S. dollars) annually to the United States, according to a document released January 12 by the World Trade Organization (WTO) Punishment.
