The data show that in 2017, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) granted a total of 320,003 utility patents, an increase of 5.2% over 2016.

Another LCD manufacturer, Shenzhen Huaxing Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., obtained 708 patents, an increase of 44% over 2016 and ranking the 45th in the world.
Among U.S. companies, Facebook enjoyed the highest increase in the number of patents obtained last year, reaching 50%, obtaining a total of 660 patents for the first time among the top 50.
