We have started releasing Intel firmware updates to OEM partners in early December and we expect to see updates in over a week covering over 90% of Intel processor offerings in the last 5 years and the rest will be released by the end of January. We will continue to release updates on other products and we are well on the way, but we still recognize that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done to support our users.
Publicity Materials Highlights: Security Concerns and Intel Products
Our goal is to provide users with the best protection against potential attacks while minimizing the impact that an update has on performance. We plan to share more detailed information about the impact of performance on a later date but we also want to offer it today Some preliminary information.
Based on the latest PC benchmark results, the performance impact is not significant for most average PC users, which means ordinary home and office users using a computer do not read email, write documents, or access photos With a significant slowdown in tasks due to 6% or less performance impact on our eighth-generation Core platform with solid state storage based on our SYSmark 2014 SE test, the leading standard for PC performance * (SYSmark is a collection of benchmarks, Individual test results range from 2% to 14%.)
To ensure customer data security is one of our priorities. To ensure customer data security, we have been focused on the development and testing of updates .We are still committed to a full understanding of potential attacks on the data center systems. But the rest of the industry Has begun to share useful research results for users. As reported last week, some industry partners offering cloud computing services to other companies have announced results that have almost no performance impact. In addition, Red Hat and Microsoft have also shared performance information .
Ultimately, the overall impact will depend on the specific workload, platform configuration, and mitigation techniques, and in some cases a variety of mitigation options to choose from, each with different performance impact and implementation details. For more details, see our white paper and Google's article on 'Retpoline' security solutions. We and the industry will continue to research solutions to address the likely impact of the case.
We are committed to helping our customers choose the solution that best meets all of their goals: security, performance, and compatibility, and we will continue to share data and other guidance as quickly as possible.
