Sandvik Coromant cutting tool and shank system specialist introduced the new CoroTurn ® Prime multi-tasking and axial tool shank series to help the shop implement the new PrimeTurning ™ method for cutting in all directions. The launch of the product allows users to leverage PrimeTurning's multi-tasking lathes and milling centers and Vertical lathe (VTL). This product complements the company's existing radial toolholders and Sandvik Coromant now has a complete product range for PrimeTurning processes.
One of the highlights of this series is CoroTurn for multitasking machines ® Prime Gemini tool shank Both CoroTurn Prime Type A and Type B inserts can be installed with the Gemini tool shank, allowing manufacturers to rough the B-type inserts before switching to Type A inserts for finishing.
Håkan Ericksson, general turning product manager at Sandvik Coromant, says: "Modern multi-tasking machines are intended for the complete machining of parts, but usually have a slow tool changeover time of about 15-20 seconds, so the new Gemini tool shank Significant savings in customer tool change time. '
As an additional benefit, B-axis machining on multitasking machine tools allows the operator to set the tool angle in precise increments, using a neutral shank for higher machine accessibility when using B-axis machining, This provides tremendous time savings and increased productivity to help manufacturers reduce tool inventory and gain competitive advantage.
Sandvik Coromant offers six new multitasking toolholders that can be mounted at 45 ° with B-axis machining and are available with CoroTurn Prime Type A or Type B. Options for multitasking machines include four Shank (only one blade) and two Gemini tool holders (two blades) CoroTurn ® Prime Gemini tool holder available with Coromant Capto ® C5 - C8 size used together.
The series of axial tool holders for vertical lathes is also part of the series, which means that Sandvik Coromant now has a complete product range for PrimeTurning processes: axial, radial and multitasking tools. Eight dedicated shanks for axial mounting are available and are compatible with most types of vertical lathes and can be used with Coromant Capto with CoroTurn Prime Type A or Type B inserts.
While PrimeTurning is suitable for the entire general turning industry, high-volume (automotive) machining shops benefit the most, as do those in the field of machining large parts (aerospace) that require less tool change, clamping time and production downtime.
In summary, the omnidirectional turning PrimeTurning method and the CoroTurn Prime tool ensure that the manufacturer can finish the turning in a more efficient way, increasing productivity by 50-80% and increasing tool life by 1.5-2 times compared to conventional turning.
