According to the news from the upstream supply chain, the global branded motherboard market will continue to slump in 2018, and shipments are expected to drop another 10%, mainly due to the shrinking DIY market, with the overall size shrinking by over 15%.
In 2013, the global market for brand motherboards reached a peak of about 75 million, and then it has been declining. In 2016, it already had less than 50 million and it is estimated that only about 43 million in 2017 will be available.
Although AMD, Intel introduced several new platforms last year, the CPU market is a rare recurrence of prosperity, but has not yet stimulated the revival of the motherboard.
As for manufacturers, ASUS has monopolized almost 70% of the global motherboard market, leaving space for other competitors to play very narrow space.
Last year, Gigabyte, the first-tier maker, conducted a large-scale restructuring of its business. This has a significant impact on motherboard shipments, with only 12.6 million units expected, compared with 16.2 million in the previous year.
However, observers believe that Gigabyte will resume its business stabilization and regain its lost market share in 2018 after restructuring and reorganization are completed.
