This is also the second deal Apple has invested in through its Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF), and in May Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the $ 1 billion Advanced Manufacturing Fund program, Designed to stimulate American employment.
In mid-May, Apple, through its Advanced Manufacturing Fund, invested 200 million U.S. dollars in the gorilla glass manufacturer Corning, making Corning the first beneficiary of the fund.
Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, Finisar employs approximately 14,000 people and is currently a supplier of laser chips to Apple's iPhone X handsets.
With the investment from Apple, Finisar will use the funds to transform a 700,000-square-foot facility in Sherman, Texas into a high-tech R & D center for VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) chips.
Currently, there are three VCSEL chips per iPhone X. Apple's investment will also add more than 500 jobs at Sherman's R & D center, including engineers, technicians and maintenance personnel.
