Imagination Technologies 2018 Forecast

David Harold, vice president of marketing communications, Imagination Technologies

2018 is coming, what does the new year mean for artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality, Internet of Things, and the hot technology of self-driving industries? What new and disruptive technologies are expected to emerge in the year to come? In this respect, imagination Technologies made the following predictions:

1. Artificial intelligence will continue to grow rapidly in 2018 Ai has not evolved along the traditional hype curve. It has been hyped, but directly into the practical application, did not enter the ' disillusionment period '. This is very rare, and the technology is now not only applied very quickly, but also provides more functionality. In the 2018, almost every area of the semiconductor industry will be affected by AI technology, consumer, commercial, automotive, robotics, IoT and data centers will be transformed. The introduction of neural network APIs on Android (Android NN) will allow mobile devices to use artificial intelligence applications, while neural network accelerators can dramatically improve the performance of artificial intelligence on embedded and mobile devices. 2. Augmented Reality (AR) spectacles back in 2017, with the release of Apple Arkit and Google Arcore, there are some key milestones in the augmented reality market. As a result, developers have developed a lot of exciting, consumer-oriented new apps and games that clearly show that although there is a false start, augmented reality glasses will still be an important component of the real future. Augmented reality glasses have great potential in the industrial market. Several warehousing enterprises in the logistics operation of the investment adopted the technology, the aim is to improve work efficiency, increase revenue. A warehouse enterprise that has experimented with this technology is expected to improve productivity by about 12%. Amazon is believed to be equipped with augmented reality glasses for its warehouse sorter. Augmented reality glasses for large-scale market applications will depend on costs. This requires reasonable pricing, and we believe that it is possible for early users to invest in the technology only when the cost is similar to that of a high-end smartphone. Glasses should also be designed to be stylish, not as big and bulky as it is now. There is also a need to address battery life issues. 2018 will be the year when early users start wearing augmented reality glasses, and the user's augmented reality experience is not only in games and daily life, but also in industrial environments such as warehousing, where they begin to get real investment returns. 3. Virtual reality will stagnate mainly for Low-volume, high-end gaming and professional applications, and virtual reality applications will remain low. Daydream and Google Cardboard will shrink because they don't have enough appeal to make consumers interact aggressively. To be blunt, they are poorly designed, the controller is clumsy, and most obviously, the graphics resolution and quality are not good enough. 4. The security of IoT is still a big challenge. Although the technology is very promising, it has created many opportunities for cyber criminals. More and more cyber-security hackers emerged in 2017, and it is fair to say that some of these are not typical corporate leaks. A list of two famous examples, one of which is caused by a virus, a state-backed extortion software event, and another is the revelation of a spy tool. However, while it is expected that the unsafe factors of the Internet or the Intelligent ecosystem support system will be exploited, but the IoT device did not cause significant hacking and was severely compromised-for example, after a denial-of-service attack, the advanced smart home ecosystem was compromised, or the IoT was forced offline. Looking back at the 2017 year situation, combined with a forecast of the 2025 growth of IoT equipment will reach an astonishing 75 billion, then 2018 will be an interesting year. The need for multi-domain security is more urgent than ever. This is considered to be an important means to protect embedded devices. 5. Self-driving cars will become entertainment from the hardware point of view, the 2018 authorized IP will be applied to the car in the period prior to 2023. Now the car is the driver sit look forward to the platform of driving wholeheartedly, and the future of the car is entertainment space, office and even the living room. What was in the end-what the passengers wanted. In 2018, IP will achieve this change, changing the way cars interact with ' drivers '. The front windshield will become an augmented reality display, one side showing information about the driver and the other on the other side of the driver's invisible passenger information. But this progress requires stronger processing power. As we develop from level 3 autonomous driving upwards, the GPU and accelerator are required to have a stronger ability to automate the driving function--about 10 times times each level. From a graphical point of view, a car now has a one or two-block screen with less than 4K resolution. This will change: 2023, the car display resolution will be up to 72k.
