BASF's world-class chemical catalyst production plant was completed in Shanghai's Caojing

BASF, the world's leading chemical company and catalyst supplier, announced on November 30 that its world-class chemical catalyst production plant was officially opened in Shanghai. This is also BASF's first chemical catalyst production plant in the Asia Pacific region.

Located in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park in Caojing, the fully-owned production facility of BASF is highly automated and energy-efficient and will mainly produce base metal catalysts and adsorbents for the fast-growing chemical industry in China and the Asia Pacific region.

Participants from the chemical industry, construction partners and local government attended today's inauguration ceremony. "The completion of this world-class chemical catalyst production plant marks another important milestone in BASF's process catalyst business. By 2020, the Asia Pacific Chemical Industry The output value will account for 60% of the world, of which China will account for more than half. "Dr. Detlef Ruff, Senior Vice President of BASF Process Catalyst Business Unit, said: 'Local production can help strengthen our relationship with customers in Asia Pacific region and improve product supply Capabilities and delivery lead times to further enhance the customer experience. With the R & D resources of BASF Asia Pacific Innovation Park in Shanghai, we are now able to provide our customers with R & D and manufacturing services with state-of-the-art catalyst technology, and in the future Expansion and flexible adjustment according to the production needs of future customers.

Dr. Ke Diwen, President and Chairman of BASF Asia Pacific, Functional Management and Greater China, said: "By the end of 2016, BASF and its partners have invested an accumulated total of 19.7 billion yuan (about 2.5 billion euros) in Caojing to build world-class production Its products will directly promote the industrial development and modernization in China and our solutions will help increase the efficiency and sustainability of China 's chemical and other industries, reduce the dependence on imports and enhance the competitiveness of customers through supply - side reform. China's supply-side reform aims to adjust the market capacity and promote innovation.

The new plant, which is based on BASF's operating experience in 11 global chemical catalyst production facilities, will use state-of-the-art production technologies to produce innovative catalysts and adsorbent products that will be used primarily in the production of chemicals such as fatty alcohols, styrene, butanediol, etc. BASF Adsorbents can remove product impurities in many applications, such as in the purification of olefins. Butanediol is one of the raw materials used in the production of THF and poly-THF, polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) is mainly used in engineering plastics, styrene can be used in the synthesis of polystyrene, the latter in the packaging and building insulation has a wide range of applications. Fatty alcohols can be used as detergents and surfactants, and more for cosmetics and Food Industry.

The Process Catalyst R & D Center at Asia Pacific Innovation Park in Pudong, Shanghai will support the new plant and will focus on the development of new process catalysts to meet the needs of the Asia Pacific market. With its strong R & D capabilities in catalyst preparation, amplification and performance evaluation, R & D center to further enhance cooperation with business partners in the region, to provide support for new chemical catalyst.
