Located in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park in Caojing, the fully-owned production facility of BASF is highly automated and energy-efficient and will mainly produce base metal catalysts and adsorbents for the fast-growing chemical industry in China and the Asia Pacific region.

The new plant, which is based on BASF's operating experience in 11 global chemical catalyst production facilities, will use state-of-the-art production technologies to produce innovative catalysts and adsorbent products that will be used primarily in the production of chemicals such as fatty alcohols, styrene, butanediol, etc. BASF Adsorbents can remove product impurities in many applications, such as in the purification of olefins. Butanediol is one of the raw materials used in the production of THF and poly-THF, polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) is mainly used in engineering plastics, styrene can be used in the synthesis of polystyrene, the latter in the packaging and building insulation has a wide range of applications.
