Renesas / HELLA Aglaia Introduces Extensible ADAS Solution

Renesas Electronics and HELLA Aglaia have announced an open and scalable front-facing camera solution for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autopilot. The new camera lens solution for automotive front cameras combines Renesas support for new vehicles New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) featuring high-performance, low-power image recognition SoC - R-Car V3M and HELLA Aglaia's Field Proven and SAE compliant new international standard J3016 Level 2 (Partially automated), and Level 3 (Conditional Automation) camera software, the solution is scalable, allowing system designers to build a wide range of front-facing lenses that support NCAP to Level 3 applications.

Ian Riches, director of autonomous marketing at Strategy Analytics, said the partnership will drive the front camera market as sensor vision is expected to be a major NCAP need in the coming years, with the front camera market surpassing 2 million units in the next five years Due to the rapid popularization of NCAP safety functions such as automatic emergency stop, lane departure warning, and traffic sign recognition.

Jean-Francois Chouteau, vice president of Renesas Global ADAS Center, said the company decided to combine HELLA Aglaia's proven camera software with the Renesas autonomy platform, which will allow customers to leverage lower latency and faster time-to-market Premise, the unique selling point for their application to achieve their products (USP).

The Renesas R-Car V3M SoC incorporates a variety of accelerators, including the Multipurpose Pipeline Engine (IMP) and Computer Vision Engine (CVE), to implement an innovative and efficient computer vision platform that enables the R-Car V3M to execute objects Convolutional Neural Networks required for classification, and algorithms that handle such things as Optical Flow and Object Detection.
