Anchorage, the German cable company, is currently testing power cables in Norway for a wave power project, and for this project in Norway, Antec has developed a dynamic 1 kV cable and a semi-dynamic 24 kV output cable for power output.
The cable is currently being tested in a wave energy pilot project in northwestern Norway in cooperation with the Swedish company Waves4Power, which has developed a dedicated wave power system.
On June 2, 2017, a 24 kV semiautomated output cable was connected to begin shipping wave-generated electricity to the Norwegian onshore grid system.
The cable is also being tested in cooperation with Chalmers University of Technology at the High Voltage Test Center at the RISE Institute in Sweden.
One of the major challenges for wave power generation is its harsh marine environment, and for Ankaite, the flexibility and durability of wave-powered power cables has been a priority in cable development.
Frida Norrbom Sams, Executive Vice President and Applications Director, Ankaut Low and Medium Voltage Cables, said: "The new 1 kV cable is extremely flexible and able to withstand the constant bending stresses caused by wave motion. The core of this cable has three copper conductors, Mechanical friction is very low, unlike ordinary submarine cables, it has no armor sheath but is reinforced with aramid yarn to make it extremely tough and flexible.
