IDC: Tablet PC outbreak, 2021 shipments look at 1 billion

Research institutes IDC on November 29 pointed out that the global annual shipment of smartphones is expected to grow from 1.5 billion in 2017 to 1.7 billion in 2021, with a 5-year average compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.0%. Ryan Reith, vice president of IDC, noted that Phablet accounted for only 1% of overall smartphone shipments in 2012 and has now approached 50% in a few years.
