Siemens acquires Solido Design Automation to enhance IC design and technology

Siemens has reached an acquisition agreement with Solido Design Automation Inc. of Saskatoon, Canada.

Solido, a leading supplier of variation-aware design and characterization software to the global semiconductor industry, today announced that its machine-learning technology-based products are now being adopted by over 40 industry leaders to assist them Design, validate and create more competitive products than ever before.

The acquisition of Solido further expands Mentor's analog / mixed-signal (AMS) verification portfolio to help customers meet the increasingly challenging design and verification challenges for ICs in automotive, communications, datacenter operations, networking, mobility and IoT applications. Details are not disclosed.Siemens is expected to complete the acquisition in early December 2017.

Tony Hemmelgarn, President and CEO of Siemens PLM Software, said: "We had a strong commitment to the EDA industry through the acquisition of Mentor, and Solido's new acquisition will reinforce and demonstrate that commitment to IC Industry customers better service. "

Amit Gupta, founder, president and chief executive officer of Solido Design Automation, said: "Solido has become an important partner for our customers to help them improve their IC's performance, power, area and yield because of the problem of variability." Combining our technology portfolio The superior IC capabilities and breadth of market with Mentor will allow us to provide a more comprehensive solution to the semiconductor industry and we are excited to be able to use our application machine learning technology developed specifically for engineering and expertise to Siemens The broader digital strategy contributes. "

Variance-Aware Design and Characterization has been the foundation for developing next-generation semiconductor products for optimal power, performance, and cost. When analog, mixed-signal, memory, and standard cell circuits are used to design today's complex applications, verification software Confidence in simulation results is needed and time-consuming, resource-consuming analytics are avoided Solidon's proprietary machine-learning variation-aware design and characterization software has proven to provide the confidence needed to dramatically reduce time With resources and unmatched data visualization capabilities.

Ravi Subramanian, vice president and general manager of IC Verification Solutions at Mentor, said: "Solido's combination of Mentor's leading mixed-signal circuit verification products will enable it to create the most powerful solution in the industry to meet today's IC circuit verification challenges. Join Mentor on this exciting day, and bringing a leading player like Siemens into the EDA industry proves to be a true game changer. "
