HDMI Forum, Inc. today announced the release of HDMI® Specification Version 2.1, which is open to all HDMI 2.0 adopters. The latest HDMI specification supports a range of higher video resolutions, including refresh rates for the 8K60 and 4K120, as well as up to 10K Resolution. At the same time support for dynamic HDR format, bandwidth capacity increased to 48G HDMI.
The new ultra-high-speed HDMI cable supports 48Gbps bandwidth, ensuring high-bandwidth independent features including uncompressed HDR-enabled 8K video Ultra-low EMI (electromagnetic interference) reduces interference to nearby wireless devices Cables Reverse compatible, can also be used for existing HDMI devices.
The 2.1 version of the HDMI specification is backward compatible with earlier versions and was developed by the HDMI Forum Technical Working Group, a member of some of the world's leading manufacturers of consumer electronics, personal computers, mobile devices, cables and components.
'The HDMI Forum's mission is to develop market-compliant specifications to increase demand for higher performance and to unlock future product opportunities,' said Chairman of the HDMI Forum and Robert Blanchard, president of Sony Electronics, Say.
Features of HDMI Specification 2.1 include:
Higher video resolution: Supports a range of higher resolution and faster refresh rates (including 8K60Hz and 4K120Hz) for immersive viewing experience and smooth, fast-moving details Supports up to 10K resolution to meet Commercial AV, industrial and professional use.
Dynamic HDR ensures that depth of field, detail, brightness, ideal contrast, and wider color gamut are guaranteed on each and every frame of the video.
Ultra-high-speed HDMI cable supports 48Gbps bandwidth supported by uncompressed HDMI 2.1 The cable emits very low EMI and is backward compatible with earlier versions of the HDMI specification, as well as with existing HDMI devices.
eARC simplifies connectivity, makes it easier to use, and supports the most advanced audio formats and highest audio quality, ensuring full compatibility between audio devices and upcoming HDMI 2.1 products.
Enhanced refresh rate
Ensures smoother and seamless movement and conversion of game, movie and video images These include:
o Variable refresh rate (VRR) eliminates hysteresis, clicks and picture tearing for a smoother, more detailed gaming experience.
o Fast media switching (QMS) for movies and videos eliminates the black screen delay before displaying content.
o Fast Frame Transfer (QFT) reduces latency, making games and implementing interactive virtual reality virtually non-lagging and smoother.
Auto Low Delay Mode (ALLM) automatically sets the ideal delay setting for smooth, timeless, uninterrupted viewing and interaction.
The HDMI 2.1 Compliance Test Specification (CTS) will be released in phases in Q1-Q3 2018 and HDMI adopters will be notified at the time of release.
