FDCA is the basic chemical raw material for the production of PEF and PEF possesses higher barrier properties of gases such as CO2 and O2 than traditional plastics, thereby extending the shelf life of the packaged product. Due to the higher mechanical strength it is possible to produce thinner Of PEF packaging, thereby reducing the amount of packaging materials needed, PEF is therefore particularly suitable for the production of food and beverage packaging, such as packaging films and plastic bottles, PEF after use can be recycled.
