Perseverance: AMD President and CEO Su Tzu Feng

No one will ever give you a straightforward path to success, but if we provide more opportunities and environment for women here to have the ambition to develop careers, take the risks and learn from mistakes ... I believe there will be more Women can hold senior positions in science and technology ...

Lisa Su, president and chief executive of AMD, was an early adopter of IBM for many years, when aluminum wire was widely used on all major wafers, and she led one of the key players in replacing aluminum with copper wire. Su Tifeng served as chief technology officer at Freescale before joining AMD in 2011. Speaking of her career as an important mentor, she referred to what is not commonly referred to as 'somebody', but for the sake of her Far-reaching impact

The most proud achievement in your career?

There are many exciting cases in my career, but I have to say that I am most proud to introduce AMD's flagship offering this year, including the Ryzen CPU, the Radeon GPU with Vega architecture, and the data center EPYC Processors. These heavyweight computing and mapping new products have been put into production for a long period of time, with some difficult decisions in the middle and some difficult challenges but with the cooperation of our extremely flexible global team I am proud that our team can achieve such an important milestone and I believe we are leading AMD into one of the top tier growth companies in the tech industry At this point, we must constantly launch successful products, and this year is an important starting point for our mission.

It is no accident that you become a top engineer or a top executive. What is your motivation for choosing a specialist area? Are you always moving toward the established goals? Have you changed direction? Are you expecting to change in the future?

I fell in love with the semiconductor when I was at MIT and I was surprised that only a small piece of silicon, a 25-cent coin, had achieved such a powerful function, It's like magic, and after I completed my Ph.D. at MIT there are two ways to go, one is to become a professor and the other is to enter the electronics industry R & D. I chose the latter because I like to develop The product that I can use in my daily life started as an engineer in the beginning, and then started to enter the field of operation and management. I really like the process of product development, but I prefer to lead the team to break through the difficulties.

In the field of engineering, women are still a minority; some of the differences between men and women, whether it is right or wrong, are still one of the reasons why men and women in science and technology industries are less; and in making your own performance and achievements in this What are the challenges you face in the environment and how can you overcome these challenges?

In my career, I was fortunate to meet good bosses and mentors, both men and women, who gave me the opportunity to challenge extremely difficult tasks that made me unique.

Men and women are really different, and once I remember my boss saying I was too quiet, it really shocked me because I just did not want to bother others at the conference; the difference between R & D work is that people will Rate you based on your actual achievements.

I like to suggest that young engineers have the courage to accept difficult challenges and achieve their goals. This is a great opportunity for you to be affirmed and appreciated by the boss and bring many new opportunities for you.

Do you have a model or mentor in your career development and what help did their mentoring or life experiences do for you?

My mother has always been a model for my studies, and she used to work as an accountant and did not start a business until she was in his forties and was very impressive with a proven track record of success, and she continues to run her business successfully. Very early learned to work hard to do their favorite work and get what it is like.

I am fortunate to meet some mentors who have influenced me deeply in my work in the early years, and I do not mean some people who are traditionally said to be "some people." These 'mentors' mean to be very harsh and hard at work Some of my people, who constantly challenge me to the limit, motivate me to become more sophisticated and make me more powerful than I originally imagined, and I am grateful for their direct and stern attitude towards me and help me learn from my mistakes , And urged me to become a more prominent business person.

Women usually face the responsibility of burning both family needs and career achievements. How can you balance the problem?

My family has been very supportive of my work, my parents encouraged me very early and create a good environment for growth, so that I have a chance of success.I am also very fortunate to have a good husband, all the way to support my career, And share the housework together at home. The key to strike a balance between home and work is to set the boundaries between private life and work and not to feel guilty about it.

Do you think it is necessary to encourage women to invest in science and technology and pursue greater achievements?

I believe the first thing that needs to be done is to provide an environment of opportunity for women in technology circles, from early education to career development. No one will ever give you a straightforward path to success. But if we To provide more opportunity and environment so that women can have the ambition to develop careers, take risks and learn from mistakes can really stand out. I believe more and more women will hold key positions in science and technology. It can solve many complicated problems in society. It is very important to think and experience diversity.
