| At Formnext 2017 Trumpf unveiled the TruPrint 5000 laser metal fusion (LMF), the latest midsize metal 3D printer, claiming to be the fastest and most productive mid-size 3D printer in the world.  The TruPrint 5000 is based on 3 500 W fiber lasers and custom scanner optics based on LMF technology and works by blending different levels of metal powder beds TruPrint 5000 manufactures complex parts for all solderable materials up to diameter 300 mm, up to 400 mm. In addition, the design also features a zero-point clamping system that does not require manual operation, such as tightening the screws. As the market for laser 3D printing grows, Trumpf is facing some formidable rivals including SLM Solutions, GE subsidiary Concepts Laser, EOS and 3D Systems.
