ITC to launch a probe into whether the Samsung semiconductor business violates Tessera's patents

According to the Yonhap news agency reported, the US International Trade Commission announced on Sunday that it would launch a probe into whether the Samsung Semiconductor Business violated the Patent Law. ITC said the filing of the investigation was in response to Tessera Advanced Technologies' allegations that Samsung had infringed on wafer-level packaging Level Packaging patents, the technology has simplified the packaging process, and reduced to produce the advantages of volume.

On September 28, 2017, Tessera Technologies issued a statement alleging that Samsung Electronics infringed the company's 24 patents covering semiconductor manufacturing, bonding, packaging, imaging, etc. Infringing semiconductor products include the Samsung flagship Galaxy S6, S7, S8, Note 8 and so on.

It is reported that, Tessera Xperi's affiliates, Xperi CEO Jon Kirchner said that Samsung signed Tessera for the first time in 1997, after 20 years of continuous benefit from Tessera's semiconductor technology.The semiconductor patent contract expires in December 2016, since then Samsung Continue to use Tessera patents without payment or authorization.

In addition, Kirchner said that although the company wants to reach an agreement, Samsung has left them no choice but to defend intellectual property through legal means.

ITC reserves the right to prohibit the export of products using infringing technology. As early as 2013, Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy S2 were banned from selling Apple patents.
